AOC ‘Never Thought’ She’d Work With GOP’s Cruz on Legislation

Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said Thursday she “never thought in my life” she would be working alongside conservative Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on one of her first legislative efforts.
The two agreed to put aside their differences and work on new lobbying restrictions for lawmakers. And they announced this week their offices are holding staff-level meetings on an effort to pass a lifetime ban on former lawmakers lobbying, The Hill reported.
“It’s super bizarre, really weird, never thought in my life that one of my first pushes would be alongside Ted Cruz,” she told The Young Turks’s Rebel HQ in an interview posted Thursday.
“I think it really shows what the true spirit of not being partisan is,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez added. “Bipartisanship doesn’t mean let’s come together to go to war and lower taxes on the rich, but bipartisanship means ‘OK, I will swallow all of my distaste in this situation because we have found a common interest.'”
The bipartisan efforts between the unlikely duo came after Cruz tweeted he agreed with Ocasio-Cortez it should be illegal for former members of Congress to become corporate lobbyists.
“If you’re serious about a clean bill, then I’m down,” Ocasio-Cortez responded. “Let’s make a deal.”
According to The Hill, lobbyists warn any bill would be a long-shot bid and, if passed, could face a fierce challenge in the courts.
